Open Source: Mozilla Geeksphone market today and Telefonica both smartphones Firefox OS, Keon and Peak, for developers. Low cost web apps are still required.
end users still wait until June to buy a smartphone OS Firefox. But Mozilla is aware of the need of content for its mobile platform, announced in a blog marketing, on Tuesday, the two smartphones to developers.
Named Keon and Peak, they were already well known in their design and specifications. The cheapest, Keon will be orange, with a 3.5 inch screen, a Qualcomm 1 GHz processor and 512 MB of RAM. It is sold directly by Geeksphone at 91 euros excluding taxes.
Out of StockThe other is larger (4.3 inches), receives a chip Qualcomm dual-core 1.2 GHz, and is priced at 149 euros, excluding taxes (198 euros including taxes and delivery to France). It does not prejudge their success with developers so close to launch, but both indices suggest a favorable reception:
- site displays constantly connection errors, seeming not hold a charge
- Keon has already announced “out of stock”.
Some web applications have already been developed – read about it in the interview Nitot, Senior Evangelist Mozilla Europe – but overall remains to be done. The system is already functional, and APIs hardware control point, as we have seen in Mozilla.
blog has some interesting links for developers wishing to start, and a FAQ. Note that if “Firefox OS responds primarily to the needs of developing countries,” according to Nitot, the Keon Peak and can be delivered anywhere in the world, and is therefore not limited to the developers of these countries.
