Pluto has unveiled two new moons astronomers in 2011 and 2012. Until Tuesday, July 2, 2013, they were designated by code names without poetry: P4 and P5. To offer them a real name, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) has launched a competition on the Web in February.
Web surfers, especially the fans of Star Trek, played the game by making their own proposals to baptize these new satellites of the dwarf planet. Fans of the series of science fiction have actively campaigned to give the name of Vulcan, the home planet of Mr. Spock, to one of the moons.
But it is finally Kerberos (Cerberus in French, the hellhound in ancient mythology) and Styx (one of the rivers of Hades) that were selected. Followers of the series collapsed by this choice, as evidenced by William Shatner, who played Captain Kirk in the series. “They have not called the Vulcan moon. I’m sad,” he posted on his Twitter account.
