Firefighters dislodged shortly after 11 am Saturday morning, a Greenpeace activist who had settled in a tent suspended from the second floor of the Eiffel Tower. His gesture was intended to draw attention to the detention in Russia of 30 members of the organization, which he calls for the release.

The environmental activist deployed a banner that reads “Free the Artic 30″ (Free 30 Arctic) and “ activists in prison, climate danger” . Another militant was secure point of attachment of the basket from the second floor. Both were introduced in the monument with a scale before opening time.

“We’re here to send a message to the French government, so that it make every effort for the release of 28 activists and two journalists,” said Cyrille Cormier, in charge of Energy Greenpeace campaign. “Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault to visit Russia next week.
