Lorient. The Tara Scientific boat cast off! - Ouest-France

A journey 25 000 km

In the rain , Tara was on time. Several hundred people attended his departure, 15 h from the pontoons of the submarine base in Lorient. In this new Tara Oceans expedition called polar circle, the scientific schooner will travel 25 000 kilometers.

Levy plankton

Fifties people will take turns on board. Sailors, but also scientists who study the impact of climate change and human activity on polar biodiversity. To do this, the team will conduct plankton samples, as in the two previous expeditions Tara.

plastic pollution and mercury

The journey of seven months must also allow for a study of plastic pollution. Analysis of the concentration of mercury in water and plankton are also carried out.
