The International Astronomical Union has finally made his choice. The names of the two new moons of Pluto will Kerberos and Styx, no offense to the fans of “Star Trek” who preferred “Vulcan.”

Farewell P4 and P5, hello Kerberos and Styx ! The last two moons of Pluto finally have a new name. The International Astronomical Union (IAU) has decided on the fate of these two dwarf planets discovered in 2011 and 2012.

This is a bit of a tradition with the moons of Pluto, the two names refer to the Underworld. “Vulcan” proposed by the fans of “Star Trek” name has been retained despite the support of voters. In fact, more than 450,000 people voted. But the IAU, the god of fire had nothing to do with Pluto , so they did not accept this proposal surfers.

Note that Kerberos means Cerberus , the three-headed dog that guards the gates of Hades.
