New technologies: foldable smartphone, and if the dream became … – La Voix du Nord

The smartphone has made its revolution. Today, developments are more improvements, mainly on the battery. The next revolution, could give a boost to the market, may well be that the foldable smartphone. But it’s been years been talking about! Years we expect this laptop that we can slip into his back pocket without fear to sit on it and break it … Several manufacturers have made announcements in recent years, no single device is born . Recently, the rumor has been restarted.

For the first researchers. The team from the Human Media Lab at the University of Queen’s (Canada) presented a video called ReFlex smartphone running Android 4.4. This prototype incorporates a flexible OLED screen 6 inches (720p) manufactured by LG. On the back of the screen, the researchers added sensors to measure the force exerted by the user (it is more curved, it is more important). It is thus turning a little pages as you would with a real book.

At CES in Las Vegas earlier this year, LG presented a folding screen of 18 inches that wound as a sheet of paper. But without revealing smartphone itself … it’s Samsung that seems most ahead of this.

Like its competitors, the Korean manufacturer has been working for several years to a foldable portable. It could emerge in 2017. It would take the form of a 5-inch smartphone that, when unfolded, becomes a 7-inch tablet. The screen technology used is of course the OLED, well controlled by the manufacturer and its subsidiary, Samsung Display.
