PhoneBloks: the concept of modular smartphone wishing ... - Generation NT

concept device “block” to assemble as required use is not new, but has never really burst onto the market.

However, a Dutch designer has revived interest in this type of kit to assemble how to Lego bricks, revealing the PhoneBloks.

thus would be a smartphone with a base (a motherboard featuring a variety of connection points) to which it is sufficient to connect the modules to add back only the necessary features.

Even the front of the device would be flexible and would satisfy the fans full HD, while the tactile, physical keyboard or even a mixture of both …

src=”http://img2.generation-nt.com/phoneblocks-blocs_00FA000001469482.jpg” alt=”phoneblocks-blocs” According to its needs, User could decide to focus more on his smartphone camera sensor rather than different wireless connectors. Conversely, the user can choose to invest regularly in the purchase of new components always benefit from the latest technologies.

The concept is interesting in principle, but wants, and it is ironic, obsolete before the time in the sense that the SoC already deployed today include management phone-blocks-store multiple modules presented here as” options “or” accessories ” (WiFi, Bluetooth …).

Besides the fact that the device imposes substantial in its configuration separating the various functions dimensions, it should also be noted that it seems difficult for a user to actually save a few dollars on a solution tailored to their needs from the configuration first investment. For example, it src=”http://img2.generation-nt.com/phoneblocks-face_00FA000001469452.jpg” alt=”phoneblocks-face” be taken into account the components sold individually will certainly be more expensive than buying directly equivalent smartphone. The economy will therefore after the first purchase, when the first burst of updates in which the user chooses to invest only on items that considers essential (photo sensor, storage, processor …)

Finally, note that more or less similar concepts have been tried in the past. We can not and do not cite the example of laptops which were promised a few years back they all interchangeable graphics cards propose … Only a few models have emerged, and plans were quickly shelved due to high prices.

also remains a great unknown about this project, the motherboard also eventually need to be replaced at one time or another …

The project is currently in the concept stage and is registered with the thunderclap site, a platform posing as an online petition to demonstrate the value of the online community for a project so that it is supported by major manufacturers.
